As individuals, Californians and Americans, we are in a stressful time regarding both income and health concerns. One way or another, everyone is affected.
We realize that lack of income is out of the control of many people. Some of us are totally unable to go to work, while others are working shorter hours.
At this point, regarding rent: if you are unable to pay part or all of your rent on time, please contact your manager to make arrangements. While no eviction (Unlawful Detainer) actions will be possible at this time, there is an expectation and requirement that outstanding rent be paid at some point in the near future, as the costs of maintaining the building will always continue.
Optimistically, we believe that government on every level, as well as utilities, financial institutions, credit card companies, etc. will work to provide flexible or deferred payments for the duration of this financial upset. We also expect that payments will again be required when citizens are able to return to their normal work schedules. Just as rent will also be expected.
On another topic: TOILETS – this is a serious reminder that nothing but human waste and toilet paper is to be flushed down your toilet (or any toilet). Everyone realizes that toilet paper is virtually impossible to find. Alternately, people have also stored up on “flushable” hygienic wipes, paper towels and napkins. Those wipes are NOT REALLY TO BE FLUSHED. Many things can be flushed, like your cell phone, but that doesn’t mean they will successfully make it through the sewer pipe system. The wipes unquestionably cause sewer pipe blockages.
Please dispose of any toilet paper alternatives safely in the trash, which will continue to be picked up. If we have a sewer line backup, there is a very real possibility that plumbers will be unable, unwilling or unavailable to clear out the blockage for the foreseeable future. This is a nasty problem that can be avoided simply by resisting the impulse to make these improper alternatives go “out of sight and out of mind”. If there IS a blockage, the results will be in everyone’s sight and unquestionably on everyone’s mind!
